The final week of spring football is underway at Drake where coach Chris Creighton’s squad will close it out with an intrasquad game on Saturday. Creighton says the goal offensively was to be able to execute the different speeds of the offense. He says they want to be able to play fast and that won’t change.

Creighton says it has been a busy spring for the defense which is under new coordinator Brad McCaslin. He says the scheme will be the same in a lot of ways, but he says it’s like learning a foreign language when the players have to learn the new terminology.

Creighton says spring practice is a great time for the coaches because there is no game to prepare for. “You get to do what you love to do and you get to do it in a way where you bring the younger guys along,” he says.

Drake won the Pioneer Football League championship in 2011.
