Hawkeye game against Penn State will be under the lights

April 24, 2012 By Todd Kimm

The Iowa football team will host one night game during the upcoming season. The Hawkeyes will host Penn State under the lights in Kinnick Stadium on October 20th. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says he enjoys night games, especially when they are at home.

“Night games in Kinnick are just, that’s tough to beat that. I joke about the only bad thing about playing on the road is coming home,” Ferentz says. He says they had a great atmosphere for their night game at Penn State a few years ago.

Ferentz says a number of young players emerged at defensive line for the Hawkeyes during spring drills. He says defensive line is a difficult position to recruit, and the type of players the Hawkeyes get need a couple of years of work before they make an impact.

“There are things that we look for and height isn’t one of them…we don’t worry about that, we don’t worry so much about weight,” Ferentz says. He says they’ve learned alot about the types of players they have had and what works and they use that as a recruiting guide.
