Man dies after being hit by a train in rural Bettendorf

April 27, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A man struck by a train in eastern Iowa has died. It happened a little after 3 Thursday afternoon in rural Bettendorf in Scott County.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office says it appears a man intentionally walked into the path of a Canadian Pacific train and the engineer was unable to stop in time to avoid striking him. The man was taken by ambulance to a Davenport hospital, then airlifted by helicopter to University of Iowa Hospitals, where he died.

The victim’s name was not immediately released pending family notification.
