The season opener is less than three weeks away for the Iowa Speedway which begins 2012 under new leadership. Doug Fritz was named C.E.O. back in October.

He is the former president of the Richmond International Raceway and says everything he heard about the Iowa Speedway has turned out to be true. “I will tell you it’s one of the best facilities in the country, from that point it wasn’t too much of a surprise,” Fritz says. He says he is looking forward to the season getting started on May 19th and 20th.

The opening weekend is capped off by the Pioneer Hi-Bred 250, the first of two NASCAR Nationwide Series events at the track this season. Fritz says all of the hard work of the off season is coming together. He says he’s spent a lot of time with the operations and marketing departments to be sure everything is ready. “So we are definitely doing everything we can to make this facility ready,” He says.

Last year was the first time the track hosted two Nationwide events and Fritz says it was a success. “Because the fans want more actually this year we will be running a second weekend of the truck series in September as well..so we’ve got five big weekends of racing,” Fritz says.

The Nationwide Series returns August fourth and the Indy cars return June 23rd for the Iowa Corn Indy 250.
