Storms cause damage, drop heavy rain

May 2, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Thunderstorms rumbled across much of Iowa last night, with heavy rain, hail and high winds. National Weather Service meteorologist Frank Boksa says the powerful storms caused a mess in several areas, including Kossuth County.

There were winds up to 60 miles-an-hour with several cars being blown into ditches. In Boone, there’s lots of tree damage and power outages and a barn had its roof blown off.

In Ames, there were garage doors blown in and gutters torn off of houses. No injuries are reported. Boksa says there’s a chance of more severe weather today and tomorrow.
