Luther College softball coach Renae Hartl hopes experience is a factor this weekend when the Norse play in an NCAA division three regional in Pella. Luther won the Iowa Conference regular season title and takes the top seed into the regional.
“This group has been fortunate enough to go the the NCAA’s all four years and they don’t know what it feels like to not have their name called on selection Monday morning. It just never gets old,” Hartl says.
Central College is serving as host and Hartl says that is familiar territory for her players as they have had success on that diamond, including the 2009 conference tournament when the seniors were freshmen. Hartl says they should get more fans with the game in Iowa.
Luther plays the tournament opener on Friday morning against St. Scholastica of Minnesota.
