Search for missing Nebraska woman and son points to Iowa

May 14, 2012 By Matt Kelley

An eastern Nebraska woman and her young son are missing and the clues have led to southwestern Iowa. Forty-one-year-old Charlotte Schilling was last reported seen on Thursday last week when she checked her ten-year-old son, Owen, out of his elementary school in Plattsmouth, a town on the Missouri River about 20 miles south of Omaha.

Schilling’s car was found late on Friday on the Iowa side of the river near Lake Manawa, just south of Council Bluffs. Authorities say Schilling’s cell phone and wallet were in the car’s trunk.

Authorities say there was no sign of a struggle or foul play. Schiling’s husband and their 20-year-old daughter are concerned, saying this is very out of character, but police say there’s no evidence of a crime.
