Husband of slain pregnant woman arrested, charged

May 31, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Authorities have arrested the husband of the woman who was shot to death in south central Iowa on Saturday. Twenty-three-year-old Lisa Techel was five months pregnant when she was killed.

Twenty-one-year-old Seth Techel was arrested Wednesday night. He’s been charged with first degree murder and nonconsensual termination of a human pregnancy.

The shooting took place last week at the couple’s home outside Agency, a small town near Ottumwa. Lisa Techel had served as reserve officer in the Wapello County Sheriff’s Department and had worked at the Washington County Jail.  Her father is a deputy sheriff in Wapello County.

Authorities will hold a news conference at 1 p.m. this afternoon to discuss details of the case.

Seth Techel had recently been hired to work in the Wapello County Jail.

The Techels were married in October of last year. Lisa Techel’s funeral will be held at 10 a.m. this morning.
