The North Mahaska high school softball team has moved up a class this season but it has not affected the team’s performance. The Warhawks are off to a 6-1 start, though coach Mike Ryan says there are plenty of areas that need fine tuned.

Ryan says they have different people in different spots and they are still not 100% comfortable. He says once they get that set and people are comfortable, it will make things much more solid.

Under the new five class system for softball North Mahaska moved up a class to 2A. They are ranked eighth in the latest poll. “I’m afraid we’re probably going to end up with just this one sport of softball being at that 2A level, because they always use last year’s numbers and our numbers have dropped down,” Ryan says. He says they go in looking to play the best softball they can.
