One dead in ultralight plane crash in Delaware County

June 5, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Update: The pilot killed in the crash has been identified as 45-year old Michael Wenger of rural Masonville.

The crash of a small plane last night claimed a life. Delaware County authorities say one person has died in an ultralight aircraft crash just west of Manchester in northeast Iowa.

The sheriff’s office confirms that the pilot, a 45-year-old man from rural Masonville, was transported from the scene to Regional Medical Center in Manchester where he was pronounced dead. The man’s name is being withheld until relatives have been notified.

The plane crashed in a cornfield a little before 8 o’clock Monday night just west of the Manchester airport. The accident remains under investigation by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration.
