A California man who confessed to a pair of thirty-year-old Waterloo murders will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Jack Wendell Pursell pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder on Thursday.

Pursell had turned himself in to Waterloo police on May 8th and confessed to the January 1981 murders of Robert and Goldie Huntbach in their Waterloo home.

The 66-year-old Pursel told investigators his faith made him travel east back to Waterloo and confess to the shootings.

Judge Bradley Harris sentenced Pursell to two life terms in prison, which will be served concurrently.
