Tourism office to give away prizes to Iowa music events

June 11, 2012 By Pat Curtis

The Iowa Tourism Office is giving away prize packages to music events happening across the state this summer. Spokesperson Jessica O’Riley says people can sign up for the “Win It Wednesday” giveaways on the tourism office’s Facebook page.

The first prize, to be drawn this Wednesday, includes VIP tickets to the 80-35 Music Festival in Des Moines. The prize to be drawn on June 20 includes tickets to the Saturday in the Park Festival in Sioux City and the June 27 drawing will award two winners with a pair of tickets to the RAGBRAI 40th Anniversary Party, featuring The Counting Crows, in Cedar Rapids.

All three of the music events are scheduled to take place in July. Eighty-thirty-five is set for July 6-7 in downtown Des Moines, Saturday in the Park is July 7, and the RAGBRAI party is Thursday, July 26. All of the prize packages include a $50 ethanol gas card from the Iowa Corn Promotion Board and the winner of the Saturday in the Park tickets will also receive a two-night stay at Stoney Creek Inn in Sioux City.

The music-themed prizes follow other recent promotions by the tourism office. “We have done a couple of other ‘Win It Wednesdays,'” O’Riley said. “We started off with a camera (giveaway) in May and we also gave away zip-line passes to Sky Tours in Dubuque.” Some of the featured bands at the 80/35 Festival in Des Moines including The Avett Brothers, Death Cab For Cutie and Dinosaur Jr. Wilco is set to headline the Saturday in the Park event is Sioux City, while The Counting Crows will play the RAGBRAI party in Cedar Rapids.
