Eight people hurt in Davenport accident

June 14, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A bizarre, rush-hour wreck in Davenport left 8 people hurt. The injuries were minor late Wednesday afternoon in an 8-vehicle pileup that began at Main and Locust streets, a major Davenport intersection. Police say a pickup struck two vehicles, including an SUV whose driver was waiting to make a turn.

Police say either because of a mechanical problem or a medical problem or both, the woman driving the SUV then sped off eastbound in the westbound lanes of Locust, where she struck five other vehicles. Cops say the woman told them she had tried to stop by using her emergency brake.
