A Mason City man is dead after an accident while riding a dirt bike. Police say they were called shortly after 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon to northeastern Mason City, where on arrival they found 21-year-old Steven Huerta unconscious and not breathing on the backside of the property, later learning that he was operating a dirt bike and lost control of it.
Huerta struck a fence on the north side of the property, ejecting him off of the bike. Huerta was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Mason City Fire Department ambulance personnel were dispatched to the scene but were unable along with police to resuscitate Huerta, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Accident investigators with the Mason City Police Department were called in and the accident remains under investigation.
