Four men from southeastern Iowa were arrested over the weekend for a non-traditional type of fishing that’s against the law in our state.

The four men were charged in Van Buren County with what’s known as hand-fishing or noodling.

Conservations officers with the D.N.R. say they saw the men catch several catfish by hand in the Des Moines River near Selma. The D.N.R. also seized a 14-foot jon boat, motor and trailer along with 174 pounds of catfish fillets at the home of one of the men.

They’re identified as Jason Tefler of Eldon and Brant Saner of Agency, both 28, 49-year-old John Saner of Batavia and 38-year-old Chris Hafele of Ottumwa.
