Linn County officials release name of motorcyclist killed in morning wreck

July 9, 2012 By Matt Kelley

Authorities have identified a motorcyclist who was killed in a crash following a high speed chase with authorities in eastern Iowa. Linn County Sheriff’s deputies say 26-year-old Andrew Lown of Cedar Rapids died when his motorcycle left Highway 100 and crashed in a corn field near Marion.

It happened around 11 p.m. Sunday after deputies say they tried to stop Lown for speeding. He initially appeared to be pulling over, but then sped away and led deputies on a three-mile long chase with speeds topping 100 mph.

Lown died at the scene of the crash. He was not wearing a helmet.
