Escaped Black Hawk County inmate captured

July 13, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

An inmate who escaped from the Black Hawk County Jail on Thursday afternoon has been apprehended. Twenty-five-year-old Jeremy Mask was taken back into custody this morning after leading authorities on a high speed chase that reportedly damaged several Iowa State Patrol vehicles.

Mask was being held awaiting trial since April, when he was arrested and charged with robbing a Walgreen’s store in Waterloo. Mask escaped from the jail through a fire tower yesterday afternoon around 3:00. Police suspect that he robbed a pharmacy in Toledo and stole several vehicles while he was on the run.

Waterloo police are scheduled to hold a news conference later this morning to release additional details.
