A revamped web site for the Iowa State University athletic department will launch a new digital network to bring more Cyclone athletic content to computer screens, tablets and smartphones.  Cyclones. TV debuts today and I.S.U. hired “the voice of the Cyclones” John Walters to serve as its main reporter.

“It’s the way things are headed in the Big 12 Conference, you know Texas has its Longhorn Network, and this is kind of everybody else’s answer to the tier 3 dilema,” Walters says.

Walters says the site will offer news conferences, on demand features as well as live coverage of I.S.U. sporting events. He says there will be at least one football game every year, between 4 and 7 nonconference basketball games, womens’ basketball games, softball and other sports shot in H-D and available on a computer.

Walters says Cyclones.TV is a subscription based service and fans may register on-line. Walters was the sports director at ABC 5 in Des Moines before being hired by I.S.U. to be part of the new venture. He will continue to call games on the Cyclone Network.

“I’ve always enjoyed reporting more than I do anchoring. For years I’ve been an anchor in TV, for 16 years that’s what I’ve, and I haven’t been able to report as much as I like to,” Walters explained.

The first event that Cyclones.TV will cover is Thursday’s media day for the I.S.U. football team.
