Railroad worker dies in Mason City accident

August 1, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A railroad worker from Stanhope has died after a work-related accident in Mason City Tuesday morning. Mason City police and fire personnel were responded to a medical call at about 2:30 A.M. regarding a subject who had been injured on the railroad tracks in the northern part of the city.

On arrival officers met with Union Pacific Railroad employees who had discovered the body of 36-year-old Georgiy Soloviyov, who was an employee of the railroad. Soloviyov was reportedly working on a railroad car coupling when another car rolled into him, pinning him between two cars.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
