Child dies in Council Bluffs fire

A fire early Saturday morning in Council Bluffs has claimed the life of a child. Council Bluffs Police say four-year old Leland Johnson, of Council Bluffs died from injuries he suffered in the blaze, after being trapped in an upstairs bedroom.

The fire at 313 North 34th Street was reported to 9-1-1 just after 6 a.m. Officials say the mother of the boy and two other children were able to escape the home. Leland Johnson was transported to a Council Bluffs hospital, where died soon after he arrived at the facility.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
