Several escape two fires in Cedar Rapids

August 20, 2012 By Matt Kelley

Seven people escaped fires in two Cedar Rapids homes. Firefighters were called around 12:15 this morning to a home on the northeast side of Cedar Rapids and found smoke and flames coming from windows and doors.

Twenty-nine-year-old Leland Harris was the only one inside and he escaped unharmed. Harris said he heard a loud boom and noticed fire spreading through the home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Another fire in Cedar Rapids Sunday morning is blamed on malfunctioning electrical equipment. Two adults and four children exited the home after noticing electrical appliances were flickering and smoke was coming out of floor vents.
