MidAmerican, Alliant rank high in customer satisfaction

September 20, 2012 By O. Kay Henderson

A new report shows the two dominant natural gas utilities in Iowa get high marks from consumers.

The annual J.D. Power and Associates report measures consumer attitudes about natural gas utilities throughout the country. It found residential customers had lower gas bills so far this year compared to 2011.

In the company’s analysis of gas utilities in the Midwest, MidAmerican Energy ranked highest among large utilities in terms of customer satisfaction. J.D. Powers lists Alliant Energy as a “midsize” utility and it ranked third in that category in customer satisfaction. Alliant operates Iowa Interstate Power and Light Natural Gas.

According to the latest government report, about two-thirds of Iowa’s households use natural gas as their primary home heating fuel.
