One person shot dead, four stabbed in fight in Sioux City

September 24, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A weekend fight on the west side of Sioux City left one woman dead and a man in jail charged with her murder. Police say the fight started between individuals on the opposite sides of the street.

Several shots were fired during the fight and four people were stabbed. Police say a 27-year-old woman died in the fight after being shot. She has not been identified. Two stabbing victims were hospitalized, while two were treated and released.

Their names have not been released. Police did arrest 33-year-old Fernando James of Sioux City and charged him with first-degree murder, willful injury and intimidation with a weapon. He is being held on a one-million dollar bond.

Police say they are still investigating the Saturday night fight and more charges are likely.
