Dunlap teen injured as train hits his pickup

October 5, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A student with the Boyer Valley Community School District in western Iowa was injured Thursday morning, when the pickup he was driving was hit by a train.

The Iowa State Patrol says Jason Hoffman, of Dunlap, was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 southeast on Remsen Street in Dunlap just before 8 A.M., when he failed to yield to a westbound train at the Canadian Northern railroad track.

The resulting collision forced the pickup into a ditch. Hoffman was taken by medical helicopter to an Omaha hospital. Officials say the teen, who wearing his seatbelt, suffered serious injuries during the crash, which remains under investigation.
