Osage man dies after falling into Cedar River

October 8, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

An Osage man is dead after falling into the Cedar River near St. Ansgar last night. The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department says they received a 9-1-1 call shortly after 10 o’clock Sunday night reporting that a male had fallen into the river at the Old Mill on the Cedar River northwest of St. Ansgar on County Road 105.

The Old Mill is an old, unused brick and concrete structure along the river, where authorities say several subjects were gathered at the time when the man, identified as 31-year-old Christopher Ceretti, fell from the structure into the river. Medical personnel unsuccessfully attempted to perform CPR on Ceretti at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
