Drake coach not ready to talk title yet

October 12, 2012 By Todd Kimm

The Drake Bulldogs are on the road in the Pioneer Football League this weekend to take on Valparaiso. The Bulldogs posted an impressive 38-10 win over pre-season favorite San Diego last weekend but coach Chris Creighton is holding off any talk of a conference title.

“We have huge games left on our scheduled…five of them, so we are a long way from a conference championship and I think our team is pretty grounded,” Creighton says.

Valparaiso is 0-5 but Creighton says the Crusadors are going to upset somebody this season and he does not want it to be the Bulldogs. He says they play hard and that is impressive to see for a team that has not won, but is still playing “intensly hard.”

Drake is 3-0 in the PFL but Creighton says the Bulldogs are smart enough to know if they don’t play well they can be beaten. “If you get a mulligan, which you normally don’t, we got it against Moorhead State. We weren’t at our best, we weren’t emotionally ready to play that game and we were very fortunate to come away with a win. And we can’t afford to do that again,” Creighton says.

Drake is 4-2 overall.
