Teen shot to death in Des Moines

A 16-year-old from Des Moines was shot to death this weekend and another 16-year-old has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

The shooting happened at about 10:30 Friday night, in a Des Moines apartment.

Sixteen-year-old Corey Hamilton, Junior, of Des Moines was shot in the head. He was taken to a Des Moines hospital, where he later died. Police interviewed witnesses to the shooting and identified the suspect as 16-year-old Dontavius Sharkey of Des Moines. He cooperated with investigators and the gun used in the shooting was recovered.

Sharkey has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless use of a firearm.
