Former Davenport alderman arrested in dispute over speed bump

November 12, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A former Davenport alderman was arrested over the weekend and charged with assault while displaying a weapon. Davenport police arrested 71-year-old Keith Meyer on Sunday.

They say he threatened his neighbor with a shotgun. According to the Quad-City Times, police say Meyer’s neighbor called them and said the former alderman had pointed a shotgun at him. At issue is a speed bump Meyer is building on a driveway he shares with the neighbor.

The neighbor told officers when he got a digital camera to document the construction, Meyer approached with a rifle and threatened to use it. Police say Meyer told them he felt threatened by the neighbor and grabbed his unloaded shotgun to defend himself.

Meyer was defeated in a re-election bid in 2007.
