More details released on fatal northeast Iowa crash

November 20, 2012 By Matt Kelley

Authorities have released more information about a fatal two vehicle crash that happened over the weekend in northeast Iowa. The crash occurred around 1:40 p.m. Saturday at a rural intersection near the town of Ryan in Delaware County.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, 19-year-old Lucas Kinney of Manchester was driving a car and failed to yield at a stop sign. His car struck a minivan and both vehicles entered a ditch. A girl in the minivan, nine-year-old Lauren Blanchard of Coggan, was killed in the crash. Three others in the van — 41-year-old Robbie Blanchard, 37-year-old Amy Blanchard, and six-year-old Taylor Blanchard — were all taken by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Kinney and a passenger in his car, 23-year-old David Kounse of Central City, were both flown from the scene to University of Iowa Hospitals. Another passenger in the Kinney vehicle, 21-year-old Anthony Buisman of Manchester, was taken to a hospital in Manchester. There’s no word on the conditions of the six injured people.
