Iowa State overcomes slow start to down Florida Gulf Coast

December 5, 2012 By Todd Kimm

Iowa State overcame a sluggish start as the Cyclones got by Florida Gulf Coast 83-72 in Hilton Coliseum. Corey Lucious had 17 points and nine assists to lead the Cyclones while Melvin Ejim added 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg says they knew it was going to be a tough game but did not feel his team was ready at the outset. “We did not come out and play the right way early and they exposed us on some things,” Hoiberg said.

Hoiberg says Florida Gulf Coast may not be a household name when it comes to college basketball but the Eagles have a solid team which beat Miami and hung in with Duke.

Iowa State is now 6-2 on the season.
