Couples line up for 12-12-12 weddings at Little Brown Church

December 12, 2012 By Matt Kelley

Little Brown Church

One of Iowa’s oldest churches, made famous by a hymn, is unusually busy today as many couples are choosing to get married on 12-12-12.

Radio Iowa’s Pat Curtis reports: Little Brown Church

The Little Brown Church in the Vale, located in the northeast Iowa town of Nashua, was first built in 1864.

Six couples from around Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota are traveling to the historic church today to exchange vows.

Pastor Jim Mann has been at the Little Brown Church the last five years. “I think 7-7-7, we weren’t here yet, but they were apparently extremely busy that day,” Mann said.

The couples getting married today told Mann they feel 12-12-12 might carry some luck and a few joked it would be easy to remember their anniversary each year. The couples booked their trips to the Little Brown Church months ago.

“The earliest one we had, they made the reservation quite some time ago so they could have the noon slot and get married at 12:00 on 12-12-12,” Mann said. The Little Brown Church’s busiest day each year is typically Valentine’s Day, when as many as 14 weddings are conducted.

The Little Brown Church hosts nearly 250 weddings and thousands of tourists every year.
