Morningside loses title game in overtime

December 14, 2012 By Todd Kimm

Morningside dropped a heart breaker in the NAIA football championship game Thursday evening in Rome, Georgia. Mike Josifovski kicked a 26-yard field goal in overtime as Marian of Indiana edged the Mustangs 30-27.

Josifovski had kicked a 35 yarder at the end of regulation to send it to overtime. Morningside had taken a 27-24 lead with a 1:04 remaining on a seven-yard touchdown pass from Joel Nixon to Kyle Shuck.

Morningside had won the turnover battle through the first three round of the playoffs but turnovers were costly last night. Nixon was intercepted twice and the Mustangs also lost a fumble as they end the season with a record of 13-1.
