Man accused in kidnapping case now charged in murder of his mother

January 7, 2013 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A 21-year-old ex-convict, arrested for kidnapping a young woman last week, is now charged in the murder of his mother. An autopsy shows 45-year-old Marilyn Schmitt was stabbed to death in her home in rural Sac County.

Schmitt’s son, 21-year-old Kirk Levin, was arrested last Thursday after a woman said Levin took her from a home in Storm Lake. As deputies were investigating the alleged kidnapping, they found the body of Levin’s mother in an upstairs bedroom of her home near Early.

Levin was released from prison last Tuesday after serving just over two years on a burglary conviction. He’s now being held in the Sac County Jail.
