One train involved in two accidents in Floyd County

January 14, 2013 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Two separate car-train accidents involving the same train happened on Sunday afternoon in Floyd County, with two people being taken to the hospital. The Floyd County Sheriff’s Department says 20-year-old Cole Leitch of Forest City was southbound about a mile west of Rudd when he failed to yield at a railroad crossing, with the vehicle being struck by a westbound Canadian Pacific train.

Leitch and a passenger, 18-year-old Hunter Scholl of Manly, had to be removed from the vehicle by rescuers by using the “Jaws of Life”. Both were taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, where they were treated and released. The Sheriff’s Department says the same train was involved in another accident a few minutes earlier in Rudd.

The driver in that accident left the scene before officers arrived.
