Two Council Bluffs men were sentenced to prison today for yanking an ATM out of a bank last year. Robert Edie, 35, and Patrick Eggerling, 19, had previously plead guilty to bank burglary. They were arrested on April 12, 2012 after leading authorities on a chase through three counties.

Shelby County authorities started the pursuit when witnesses reported seeing the two men use a log chain attached to a vehicle to pull an ATM out of the Farmer’s Trust and Savings Bank in Early. The ATM, which contained about $6,000, was then loaded into the back of an SUV.

A high speed chase ensued through Shelby, Harrison and Pottawattamie Counties before Edie lost control of the SUV, which left Interstate 680 and crashed in a field. The two men were captured a short time later hiding in a ditch.

Edie was sentenced to two years and 10 months in prison, while Eggerling was ordered to serve 15 months behind bars. The two men are also liable for nearly $11,000 in restitution.
