January 18, 2013 By Matt Kelley

A Kansas City man is facing charges following a hit and run incident witnessed by a central Iowa police officer.

Ames Police say an officer saw a pickup truck hit a man walking across a street just before 2 a.m. Friday in the 100 block of Welch Avenue.

The vehicle fled the scene, but Iowa State University police officers tracked down the pickup and arrested the driver, 24-year-old Jimmy Hatley. The Kansas City man is charged with serious injury by vehicle, leaving the scene of a serious injury accident, operating while intoxicated and reckless driving.

The pedestrian, 22-year-old Shawn Molitor of Ames, was initially taken to a hospital in Ames and later transferred to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines where he was listed in critical condition Friday afternoon.
