Man arrested in Council Bluffs after alleged kidnapping attempt

January 29, 2013 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A 19-year-old man is behind bars after Council Bluffs Police say he tried to kidnap a 10-year-old girl outside an elementary school Monday. Sergeant Dave Dawson says the girl had been working as a crossing guard at Edison Elementary School.

Dawson says the man walked up and grabbed the girl’s arm and forced her to walk with him for several feet. He says the girl struggled with the man and then broke away.

“The victim was able to run to a family member who was actually there to pick her up. At this point the victim’s father is notified,” Dawson says. He says the father found the man and held him for police.

Nathan Busse was charged with third-degree kidnapping, assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, enticing a minor and child stealing. Dawson says the girl reacted correctly to the threat.

“She did very well. She was able to get away, she went and told someone immediately. Fortunately in this deal nobody was hurt,” Dawson says. Dawson says they are investigating to see if there are any other cases linked to Busse.
