Dance marathons at Iowa, ISU raise big bucks

February 4, 2013 By Matt Kelley

Dueling dance marathons at Iowa’s two largest public universities are raking in big dollars for charity. A record haul of $1.53-million was raised at this weekend’s 24-hour dance marathon at the University of Iowa. It beat last year’s total by more than $160,000.

More than 2,000 students took part in the 19th annual event in the Iowa Memorial Union which benefits young cancer victims and their families. A similar event at Iowa State University late last month raised more than $388,000 for the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.
