Iowa beats Illinois with big game from Marble

March 6, 2013 By Todd Kimm

Roy Devyn Marble scored 21 points as the Iowa Hawkeyes pulled away down the stretch for a 63-55 win over Illinois in Big Ten action. Gabe Olaseni gave the Hawkeyes a lift off the bench with six blocked shots and as a team the Hawks equaled a school record with 12 in the game.

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery says everyone made plays including Olaseni. Marble was a perfect 10 out of 10 at the free throw line as the Hawkeyes improved to 8-9 in the Big Ten.

McCaffery says he struggled with taking Marble midway throught he second half as he was playing so well, but he felt they needed him to be fresh down the stretch run.

Iowa closes the regular season at home on Saturday against Nebraska and with a victory would reach the 20 victory plateau.
