Iowa basketball back in action tonight in NIT

March 22, 2013 By Todd Kimm

Iowa's men are back in action in the NIT Friday.

Iowa’s men are back in action in the NIT Friday.

It is a quick turnaround for the Iowa Hawkeyes who will host Stony Brook this evening in the second round of the NIT.

The Hawks opened with a 68-52 win over Indiana State before a sellout crowd on Wednesday night and coach Fran McCaffery says they will need another big crowd to help against a Stony Brook team that opened with a victory at UMass.

McCaffery says the players don’t mind the quick turnaround.

“You do need a little time to put it together and give them a gameplan to hold onto, but they get to the point where the practices, the film sessions, it’s been a long time, they want to go play the games,”McCaffery says.

Iowa is 21-12 and McCaffery says they want the season to continue past this evening, he says watching the young team get better and better is the beauty of moving on to play again.

Stony Brook is 24-7 on the season. It will be an 8:30 tip off in Iowa City.
