No foul play suspected in Woodbury County Jail inmate’s death

March 29, 2013 By Matt Kelley

Preliminary autopsy results have failed to answer many questions about the death of a jail inmate in Sioux City this week. Anthony Josta, 35, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Woodbury County Jail on Tuesday evening. Efforts to revive Josta were unsuccessful.

A report from the State Medical Examiner’s office states there’s no evidence of foul play related to his death. Josta was alone in the cell, but investigators have ruled out suicide.

Agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation say they’re now waiting on toxicology results from Josta’s autopsy to determine his cause of death. Those test results could take 6-8 weeks.

Josta had been jailed three days prior to his death after being arrested on a warrant for contempt of court.
