Agriculture art contest taking submissions for second year

April 6, 2013 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Iowa artists are invited to participate in the second annual “Celebration of Iowa: Agricultural Art Award”.  Jeff Morgan of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs said this is the second year for the contest.

“The basis behind it its…we have a proud, strong tradition of honoring our land through art. Last year’s exhibition was a tremendous success and it’s really come a long ways,” Morgan says. “The artwork will be judged on innovation of concept and execution of the contest them an the technical quality of the work. And there are two divisions, there’s an adult division and a youth division.”

Morgan says there are cash prizes in both divisions and this year’s theme is “ Cultivating Change.” He says you have to be an Iowa resident working in a two or three-dimensional media and you can find other specifications at www.culturalaffairs.org, or www.iowaagricluture.gov, with the deadline for submission being July first.

Morgan says 45 Iowa communities were represented last year and they look forward to the entries for this year’s contest. The winning art works will be on display at the State Historical Museum of Iowa later this year.
