Iowa native looks forward to racing at Newton

June 3, 2013 By Todd Kimm

NASCAR driver Michael Annette is looking forward to returning home this weekend when he competes in the DuPont Pioneer 250 at the Iowa Speedway in Newton. The Des Moines native is coming off his best finish of the season in the Nationwide series, a 13th place finish at Dover International Speedway.

“I always loved going back to that racetrack and it used to be just because it was my home track and I never really ran as well as I needed to and should, and last season we had some really sharp runs and probably had a chance to win it the second time there,” Annette says.

Annette is ready for a busy week as he tries to fill ticket requests from friends and family. Annette missed several races after being injured in a crash at Daytona back in February. Even though he considers the Iowa Speedway his “home track” he will treat it like any other race.

“We had a test plan for Iowa that we were really looking forward to going to. I got cleared but then it rained anyway, so we didn’t get to go,” Annette says.

But Annette admits winning at the Iowa Speedway would be even sweeter. “I’ve told everybody I’d like to win a foot race, anything there just to win a trophy,” Annette says.
