Nebraska man dies in southwest Iowa accident

June 6, 2013 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A Nebraska man was killed in southwest Iowa on Wednesday when the SUV he was driving crossed the centerline of a road and collided with a semi. The crash occurred at around noon on Highway 34 near the Mills County town of Hastings.

The Iowa State Patrol identified the victim as 66-year-old Carlos Alvarez of Omaha. Officials say Alvarez was traveling west when his 2012 Ford Escape collided with an eastbound 2012 Kenworth semi driven by 27-year-old Chase Alm, of Griswold. Alvarez died at the scene. Alm was not injured.

The patrol says Highway 34 was closed for several hours following the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
