One dead, one in custody after fatal Davenport shooting

June 24, 2013 By Radio Iowa Contributor

One person is dead and another is in custody in connection with a Davenport shooting. It happened about 1 o’clock Saturday morning in a working class southwest Davenport neighborhood. And police are calling it a homicide.

They say 25-year-old Amanda Abbott of Davenport died at the scene. Cops say 22-year-old A.J. Coats of Davenport was identified as a suspect. He was picked up across the river in Milan, Illinois.

Coats is in the Rock Island County Jail awaiting extradition on warrants charging him with second-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, theft and possession of stolen property. Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting.
