Search underway for drowning victim on the Upper Iowa River

July 22, 2013 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A search is underway in northeast Iowa for the body of a man believed to have drowned. The Winnishiek County Sheriff’s Department says they believe 29-year-old Eric Langland of Decorah drowned on the Upper Iowa River east of Decorah Saturday.

The Department received a report of a man on the water in distress shortly after seven p.m. Saturday night. A search began Saturday and continued into Sunday morning. Authorities have yet to recover the body. Access to the upper dam area is closed until further notice.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Department says the area is popular for swimming but they discourage it due to the danger from strong currents.
