Defending champ knocked out in Class 1A softball

July 23, 2013 By Todd Kimm

Catcher Emily Parks had two hits and drove in a pair of runs as tenth ranked New London edged second ranked and defending 1A champion Martensdale-St. Mary’s 3-2. “I knew that I had to go out there with confidence,” Parks says.

Fourth ranked Newell-Fonda pounded out 11 hits and too advantage of eight Remsen St. Mary’s errors in a 14-1 victory in a 1A quarterfinal round game. Newell Fonda coach Dick Jungers says nerves can come into play and they were able to force some errors the other team doesn’t always make.
