Blown tire leads to fatal motorcyle accident

August 5, 2013 By Matt Kelley

A tire blow-out is blamed for a fatal motorcycle crash on Interstate 80. The crash happened shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday near Williamsburg in Iowa County.

A report from the state patrol shows 56-year-old Michael Muldoon of Ottumwa was driving a 1991 Honda motorcycle when the back tire deflated, causing Muldoon to lose control. A passenger on the cycle, 62-year-old Mary Penne of Ottumwa, was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals, where she later died.

Muldoon was injured in the crash, but there’s no word on his condition.
