An Ohio man was sent to the hospital in Sioux City this weekend following a motorcycle accident on Interstate 29 north of the city that left his wife dead. The South Dakota highway Patrol says 49-year-old Carolee Weaver of Luckey, Ohio died when the motorcycle she was riding struck debris while headed northbound on I-29.

The patrol says she was riding in a staggered formation of four motorcycles. The lead rider, 52-year-old Brent A. Weaver, also of Luckey, saw a tire and wheel in the driving lane at the crest of a hill. His motorcycle hit the tire and went down. The collision knocked the tire into the path of Carolee Weaver’s motorcycle, which struck it.

Both riders were thrown from their motorcycles. Carolee Weaver was pronounced dead at the scene. Brent Weaver was taken to a Sioux City hospital with serious injuries. Neither rider was wearing a helmet. They were headed to the Sturgis motorcycle rally in western South Dakota.
