A crime spree in western Iowa that began in Adair County Thursday night ended with the suspect’s vehicle crashing in Pottawattamie County. The incident began when a motel just north of Interstate 80 in Stuart was robbed by two men from Nebraska. Details on that robbery are currently not available.

The same suspects moved on to hit a motel just south of I-80 in Cass County. Sheriff’s officials say at around 11:40 p.m., the America’s Best Value Inn located near the intersection of I-80 and Highway 71 was robbed by a black male who displayed a firearm and demanded money.

The suspect and an accomplice got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. After an all-points bulletin was issued, a state trooper located the suspect’s vehicle about 25 minutes later near the Minden exit on I-80. A chase ensued, with the suspect vehicle fleeing west onto I-680 at speeds near 130 miles-an-hour.

The vehicle turned south onto I-29 went out of control and rolled several times into the median near Crescent, after a Pottawattamie County sheriff’s deputy successfully deployed stop sticks. Troopers said the passenger was partially ejected from the vehicle and suffered critical injuries.

The driver, who was wanted on several felony warrants, is expected to survive. Charges are currently pending. A dozen law enforcement agencies participated in the effort to capture the suspects.
